Working from the Bones
Almost all the work that a student does in initial yoga practice is done by muscular effort.
While this beginning is essential, the student often hears words like asana practice is an
effortless effort
or every asana must become sthirum (unwavering) and sukham (with ease)
.
In addition to active physical action one therefore needs to cultivate an art of receptive
action. This is done partly through understanding of pranic actions. In order to facilitate
this journey one needs to understand among other things the art of
mula bandha.
Both, the receptive pranic actions as well as the action of
mula bandha require an understanding that they are not the muscular actions of the kind
that a beginner does; rather they are actions that have their root in a very different world
that begin by transcending logic without violating the foundation of that logic; eventually,
they are unrelated to the logic. Working through the bones is one such approach. In this workshop
Ramanand will introduce a step by step approach to this art.
The workshop is suitable for those who are very familiar with basic alignment of yoga posture
and have the stamina to hold the poses for a longer time to allow the mind to penetrate deeper.
The workshop is not suitable for those with therapeutic needs of special attention.
